Friends of Hibou are happy to be scheduling hikes again, one month at a time.  Below is the information for March hikes.  We do allow children eight years old and older as long as they are capable of maneuvering around flooded areas if necessary. You are responsible for overseeing your children.

For our hikes, as before, you must register in advance.

Where to meet: These three hikes will start from the Parking Lot by the Pump house at the most southerly entrance to the trails.

Time:  1pm to 3pm.

Reminder – social distancing will be in place, and masks should be quickly available in the case of inadvertent closer contact than planned.  We will keep numbers manageable at about ten in total per hike leader.

Tuesday March 2^nd. Barry Lewin will lead a snowshoe/hike on the Interpretive Trail.

Tuesday March 16^th. Bob Knapp will lead a snowshoe/hike on the Interpretative Trail. Depending on the group and the weather, he may offer an extension to another section.

Tuesday March 30^th Don Sankey will share photography skills on parts of the shoreline trail and the Interpretive Trail. You may bring your camera. Learn more about winter light, snow and more.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Friends of Hibou Committee. We look forward to times when we can gather in groups and enjoy singing and laughing and hugging safely without wearing a mask.

Several pieces of wood on the boardwalk on the Interpretive Trail were showing major signs of disrepair. Last week Bob replaced eight boards and it was much more work than anticipated. He pulled the wood boards in on a toboggan.

Pulling out the old boards was the most difficult. The nails refused to pull out. New boards are being screwed in place. The replaced boards makes that part much easier and safer to walk on.

We will be needing volunteers to replace many more boards in the spring. Bob is now well versed in what will be needed.

Are you looking for an interesting outdoor event over the next several weeks? This will be a long winter so let’s make the best of it.

Dec 15th. Annette Patrick will lead a hike or snowshoe along the Point Trail and explore the magical nature of Hibou.

December 31 Krista McKee Kids and parents celebrate New Years Eve day, December 31, @ 2:00pm. Snowshoe/hike and winter fire with bannock and hot chocolate. Bring your travel mug, Donations accepted.

In early April, a For Sale sign was posted by the Altas Real Estate Agency on the north end of Hibou.  Grey Sauble Conservation staff heard of this action through social media.   Staff are working with a lawyer to rectify the situation.    We are please with the quick action of staff to work through this mistake!   Here is the link to the news release from Grey Sauble Conservation.  Thank you to everyone and the Hibou Neighbourhood Watch Program, we appreciate your help in bringing this to our attention!!!!!

Greetings from the Friends of Hibou!

Perhaps Covid-19 Pandemic isolation time is a  good time for you to browse through our web site.  It could even possibly be a family activity time.  You might want to plan some activities at Hibou when this is over in the summer. 

We recently posted a new set of photos taken by Tom Hakala.  Go to Nature Photos .

Tom’s creative photography shares with us some of winter’s splendor.  A great example of making the best of life’s challenges. 

We are disappointed that the Pandemic has meant that the Grey Sauble Parks and Trails have been closed.  Hopefully all the cancellations and closures will shorten the time this lasts.  We had some events planned for this spring.  Sadly we are not sure when we will be able to reschedule them.  Keep checking.  Our committee will have a virtual meeting in April and hope to come up with whatever we can with some degree of certainty. 

Being in nature can be an excellent way to de-stress.  Nature is a healer.  Spend quiet time there.
